Cold storage facility unveil

CS Co-operatives and MSMEs Hon. Simon Chelughui, PS MSME Hon. Susan Mang'eni among other dignitaries accompanied H.E President William Ruto in Meru County where the Head of State unveiled a state of the art potato cold storage facility.

The facility has a capacity to store 2000 metric tonnes per year and serves over 14,000 farmers. This facility provides a new dawn for small scale potato farmers in Meru county that have been suffering from perennial post-harvest produce losses hence providing opportunities for the growth of  MSMEs through access to modern infrastructure, market aggregation and access, value addition opportunities, product standardization for up-marketing and export markets, synergy among various government agencies, as well as grass root entrepreneurial empowerment for lasting impact.

Through this facility, small scale potato farmers will also be able to achieve the government’s aspiration towards increased agricultural productivity and food security, grass root economic diversification through value addition initiatives, access to competitive and reliable markets.
