Launch of Shirikiana Sacco to Advance Cooperative-Led Economic Empowerment
The cooperative movement is a critical wealth builder at the grassroots level by promoting investment and a culture of saving and entrepreneurship. The cooperatives in Kenya have a cumulative membership of over 8 million members and control over 1 trillion shillings in deposits, making them the strongest on the continent.
PS Susan Mangeni joined President, H.E. Dr William Ruto, for the official launch of Shirikiana Sacco at Masinde Muliro University in Kakamega County. As the Government continues to invest in priority agricultural value chains, the Sacco will support farmers in modernising their production and provide social safeguards through SHA subscriptions, education loans and last-respect benefits.
Other leaders present included Hon Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and diaspora affairs; Hon Moses Wetangula, Speaker of the National Assembly; Dr Beatrice Inyangala, Principal Secretary for Higher Education; Dr Bonface Makokha, Principal Secretary for Economic Planning; Dr Jane Kere Imbunya, Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development; Hon Fernandes Barasa, Governor, Kakamega County; and a host of elected leaders from the Western region.
